Producer Focus: Aubert | "Right Up There With the Top Chardonnay Estat

Instrumental in raising the profile of Californian Chardonnay, Mark Aubert and his Aubert Estate create wines that can only be matched by a handful of producers around the world. Famed for his ability to skillfully apply Burgundian winemaking techniques whilst maintaining a distinctive Californian identity, the Wine Advocate's Robert Parker singles out Aubert as "one of the contenders for California’s finest practitioner of Burgundian-styled, yet classic, California Chardonnays".

Aubert’s career in winemaking began in 1989 at Peter Michael, under the guidance of Helen Turley. Subsequently, he spent time at Colgin, Sloan, Futo and then Bryant Family, before founding Aubert Wines in 1999. As well as owning his own vineyards, Aubert also uses his experience in the industry to contract with some of the greatest Chardonnay growers in California. Today Aubert either owns or has access to some of the finest real estate in the appellations of Sonoma Coast, Napa Carneros, Russian River and Rutherford.

All Aubert vineyards are established with a 'Fifty Years of Production' expectation consisting of high quality, low yield grape harvests. The winemaking process is carefully guided by Aubert, a winemaker described as having a 'farmer’s heart and artisan’s soul'. The Aubert philosophy is that of art meets science, looking to nature for guidance and to science for insight, as he crafts wines with minimal intervention, ensuring a sense of place elegantly reflected in every bottle.
