Today we are delighted to offer the 2003 debut of one of Napa’s most sought-after wines, Scarecrow, the vintage that propelled this estate into the spotlight.
Scoring a fantastic 98 points from the Wine Advocate’s Robert Parker, he gushes that the Scarecrow 2003, “has sensational richness, but the purity, elegance, and overall nuance of this wine are what set it apart and give it a very distinctive character all its own. This is a fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon”.
This is very rare indeed with only 471 cases having been produced back in 2003. There are currently no other cases available in Europe, making this find all the more special. We have just one case available (3x75cl) in stock @ £2600 IB.
From the estate of J.J Cohn, the legendary producer of The Wizard of Oz, Scarecrow is named in tribute to the character in the film. The vineyards are equally iconic and have provided fruit for many spectacular wines, including the early Inglenook Cabernets. The grapes from the J.J Cohn estate are highly prized, having been planted with original, phylloxera resistant St. George rootstock. These highly prized old vines continue to produce exceptionally rich fruit, the hallmark of Scarecrow wine.
Scarecrow 2003 (3x75cl)
98 points | Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
This inky purple-colored wine has an extraordinary nose of sweet black cherry jam intermixed with licorice, spice box, and cedar. It has sensational richness, but the purity, elegance, and overall nuance of this wine are what set it apart and give it a very distinctive character all its own. This is a fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon and another terrific 2003 that can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 or more years.
