Owned and operated by Californian winemaking powerhouse Jackson Family Wines, Lokoya is a collection of four distinct Cabernet Sauvignons from four of Napa Valley’s most celebrated mountain appellations: Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain. These limited-production wines are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented with native yeast, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, resulting in pure expression of place.

“Lokoya’s offerings are consistently among the greatest Cabernet Sauvignons made” – Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

As the grape variety and winemaking for the four wines remain consistent, this allows the vineyard sites to shine with the climate and soils fully expressed in the glass. Utilising winemaker Christopher Carpenter’s years of expertise, intervention is kept to a minimum both in the vineyard and in the cellar, preserving the unique terroirs that make Lokoya unique.

“It will be hard to eclipse the quality of this quartet” – Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Today we are delighted to offer for the first time at AM Fine Wines, a number of back vintages from each of the four Lokoya wines.

On the western ridges of the Mayacamas Mountains, at the northern end of the Mount Veeder appellation, the Veeder Peak vineyard sits at 1,800 feet elevation. Since 1995, Lokoya has produced a Cabernet Sauvignon from a selection of blocks situated on this steep, mountainous terrain. The volcanic soil forces the vines to seek out nutrients and in turn produce berries with intensely concentrated fruit. The wines display characteristics of violets and blue fruit with powerful tannins and exceptional aging potential.

Lokoya’s Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from a selection of blocks in three distinct vineyards of northern Napa: the estate-owned Rhyolite Ridge and Wallis vineyards, as well as the renowned Andrew Geoffrey vineyard. Situated above the fog line, the vineyards experience cooler days and warmer nights with less temperature variation than on the valley floor. High elevation, poor soils and a moderate climate yield full-bodied wines with rich black cherry flavour and notes of dark chocolate and relatively soft tannins.

At the north-eastern side of Napa Valley’s Vaca Range, the estate W.S. Keyes Vineyard was planted in 1888, and has been the exclusive source for the Lokoya Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon since its first vintage in 1995. The vineyard sits at 1,825 feet, high above the fog line, where temperatures are cool but moderate, and Cabernet Sauvignon thrives with extra time to ripen. Lean, quick-draining soils force the vines to struggle, yielding small grapes that possess concentrated flavour with a signature minerality and earthy undertone.

Established in 1993, the Spring Mountain District appellation sits above the town of St. Helena on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, which separate Napa Valley from Sonoma County. First crafted in 2005, the Lokoya Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is primarily sourced from three vineyards: the estate-owned Yverdon vineyard, the Wurtele vineyard and Spring Mountain Vineyard . Again, cool daytime temperatures, deficient soil and steeply sloped vineyard terraces combine to create ideal growing conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines from Spring Mountain express a signature floral perfume, deep red fruit flavours and smooth tannins.
