Pioneering benchmark producer is a phrase that nicely sums up the work of Calera. Founded in 1974 by Josh Jensen, who took his cue from the great domaines of Burgundy in his quest for the perfect terroir, Calera quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with, creating wonderful Pinot Noir in the Gavilan Mountains. Calera continued to innovate through the 1980s, when it was one of the first wineries in California to plant Viognier. Certified organic, the 31-hectare estate is located at high elevations, 2200 feet above sea level on average, and produces several single vineyard pinot noirs as well as outstanding Chardonnay, Viognier and Aligoté.

Over the past four decades, Jensen and his team have acquired a reputation for consistent excellence, creating internationally recognised wines. Calera has been honoured four times by Wine & Spirits magazine in their list of “Top 100 Wineries in the World”, with Robert Parker describing Calera as “California’s Romanée-Conti”.

Today we are delighted to share with you a number of Calera single-vineyard back vintages that are in stock and ready for immediate delivery:

Hailing from the hallowed slopes of Mt Harlan, each vineyard site brings its own unique quality to the wine it produces. Planted in 1975, Jensen is named after Stephen Jensen, Josh’s father and it produces impeccably balanced, rich, round and age-worthy wines. Planted in 1984, Mills is named in homage to Everett Mills, a neighbour and friend who kept an eye on Josh’s progress during the early development years. It produces wines that are fragrant and spicy, with broad round tannins and a long finish. Planted in 1975, Selleck is named after Dr. George Selleck, a family friend who first introduced Josh to wine. It produces Burgundian-style wines that are concentrated and complex with great perfume and fantastic ageing potential.

Ever-popular, these wonderful Calera wines will not disappoint. With limited availability on many of the lines, do get in touch to avoid missing out.
