Instrumental in raising the profile of Californian Chardonnay, Mark Aubert and his Aubert Estate create wines that can only be matched by a handful of producers around the world. Famed for his ability to skilfully apply Burgundian winemaking techniques whilst maintaining a distinctive Californian identity, Robert Parker singles out Aubert as “one of the contenders for California’s finest practitioner of Burgundian-styled, yet classic, California Chardonnays”.

Aubert’s career in winemaking began in 1989 at Peter Michael, under the guidance of Helen Turley. Subsequently he spent time at Colgin, Sloan, Futo and then Bryant Family, before founding Aubert Wines in 1999. As well as owning his own vineyards, Aubert also uses his experience in the industry to contract with some of the greatest Chardonnay growers in California. Today Aubert either owns, or has access to, some of the finest real estate in the appellations of Sonoma Coast, Napa Carneros, Russian River and Rutherford.

Aubert’s attention to detail shows through his wines, with recent vintages displaying his ever-increasing intimacy with each site. “One of the amazing things about Aubert’s Chardonnays is that they are aged in 100% new oak, but it is virtually untraceable in any of the wines – a testament to the quality of the fruit as well as the meticulous vinification and élevage practiced by Mark Aubert” – Robert Parker

All Aubert vineyards are established with a “Fifty Years of Production” expectation consisting of high quality, low yield grape harvests. As such production is extremely limited with most of the wines being sold directly to consumers via their mailing list. With a lengthy wait to join the mailing list we are delighted to be able to offer a selection of Aubert Wines that can be secured today.

Robert Parker | Wine Advocate
“Mark Aubert is one of the contenders for California’s finest practitioner of Burgundian-styled, yet classic, California Chardonnays. His offerings are all made like grand cru Burgundies with full malolactic, the use of French oak and lees stirring, but the purity of fruit, the textural dimensions, and the stunning singularity of these Chardonnays can only be matched by a handful of other Chardonnay producers in the world. He’s that good… One of the amazing things about Aubert’s Chardonnays is that they are aged in 100% new oak, but it is virtually untraceable in any of the wines – a testament to the quality of the fruit as well as the meticulous vinification and élevage practiced by Mark Aubert.”
