Humble, influential, pioneering, understated greatness is how we would sum up the work of David Ramey and his Ramey Wine Cellars, so we are delighted to offer the newly released wines from this revered winery.

After sixteen years making wine in Sonoma County, helping firmly establish Matanzas Creek and Chalk Hill wineries, David crossed over to Napa Valley – first as winemaker for Dominus Estate, owned by Christian Moueix of Petrus fame, before then helping Leslie Rudd transform the Girard Winery into Rudd Oakville.

From his earliest experiences in wine, David has been inspired by European styles. Having worked in France at Château Pétrus, he dedicated himself to applying the old-world techniques to the perfectly ripe fruit of Napa and Sonoma. Bottling wines under his own label since 1996, he remains one of the most influential winemakers in North America, consistently producing wines of exception over the last two decades.

“David Ramey is one of California’s best and most respected winemakers” – Stephen Brook, Decanter

“In my mind, Ramey is one of the top wineries in the United States” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous

In common with most Californian wineries, the majority of grapes are bought in rather than sourced from estate-owned vines. David’s deep understanding of the region and its vineyards has ensured that he only works with great vineyards farmed by great people. His long-standing relationships allow for a collaborative approach to get the best quality from each site and exemplify their character.

Reflecting the humble nature of David’s work, the wines of Ramey Wine Cellars are extremely reasonably priced, allowing wine lovers across the board to sample greatness:

Ramey Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2019
This Chardonnay is made from fruit from several parts of the Russian River Valley where goldridge loam and gravelly soils give a crisper mouthfeel to Russian River Chardonnays compared with their Carneros counterparts.

“The medium-bodied palate offers expansive fruits and refreshing acidity, finishing long and energetic” Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate

Ramey Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay 2019
Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay was the first wine produced under the Ramey Wine Cellars label. Hyde Vineyard is on the Napa side of the Carneros District. Summer temperatures are kept relatively cool by marine air flowing through the Petaluma Gap and ancient creek beds provide drainage amongst a scattering of rocks.

“Age-worthy and expressive—the aromatic intensity is turned up and flavours are notably pure and in focus” Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate

Ramey Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay 2019
Ritchie Vineyard has been called a “California Grand Cru Chardonnay Vineyard” by Wine Enthusiast Magazine and these are some of the oldest Chardonnay plantings in California.

“The medium-bodied palate is silky and seamless, balancing salty freshness with an intense core of fruit, finishing with tremendous persistence and nuance” Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate

Ramey Rochioli Vineyard Chardonnay 2019
This single vineyard Chardonnay represents a collaboration between multi-generation winegrowing families and has become synonymous with quality.

“The palate is medium-bodied, satiny and intense, with refreshing bursts of tangy acidity and a very long, layered finish replete with an anchoring touch of texture” Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate

Ramey Woolsey Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2019
This Chardonnay is exclusive to Ramey; you will not find Woolsey Road Vineyard anywhere else as the vineyard was planted specifically for Ramey. Woolsey Road benefits from two greats in the chardonnay world: it originates from the Hyde family’s cuttings of Old Wente, and is farmed by the third and fourth generations of the Martinelli family.

“The medium-bodied palate is energetic and tense at this youthful stage, its satiny texture opposed by tangy freshness, and it finishes long and flinty” Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate

Ramey Woolsey Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2018

“The palate is silky, featherweight and minerally, finishing very long and lifted” Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate

Ramey Annum Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Annum Cabernet Sauvignon is Ramey’s proprietary winemaker blend allowing them to choose the best lots from top vineyard sources. The result is a powerful wine with rich texture, silky tannins and deep varietal concentration, nicely framed by savoury French oak barrels.

“It has a seamless structure, with lacy tannins, integrated yet persistent freshness and a tremendously long finish” Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate

The wines of Ramey Wine Cellars are famously long-lived, and with an ETA of later this year, these wines are drinking well now or will happily cellar for a decade or more.
