As Oregon’s burgeoning wine scene continues to mature and prove itself capable of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that can rival the very best in the world, a host of ambitious newcomers have joined the venerable “old guard” producers in raising the bar for quality across the Willamette Valley. Bridging the gap between established names and promising new projects is the estate of Arterberry Maresh, one of the most accomplished producers in Oregon.

Located along the famed Wardon Hill Road in the Dundee Hills, the historic vineyards of Arterberry Maresh were originally planted in 1970 upon the recommendation of Oregon wine pioneer Dick Erath. Now headed by third-generation Jim Maresh, the family’s Maresh estate vineyard yields wines of incredible complexity and depth, not to mention bottles that routinely receive some of Oregon’s highest scores.

Not satisfied with merely producing phenomenal wines from his family’s property, Maresh recently decided to embark on a small project named “Tan Fruit” to showcase the diversity and potential across other sub-AVAs of the Willamette Valley. This afternoon we are pleased to offer the 98-point Tan Fruit “Dux Vineyard” Chardonnay, one of Jim Maresh’s highest-rated wines from the 2019 vintage. With just a few hundred cases of each Tan Fruit cuvée bottled for the inaugural 2019 vintage, these Chardonnays have already become very difficult to track down.

In much the same way that collectors have been stockpiling wines from an outstanding 2019 vintage in Burgundy, fantastic conditions in 2019 across the Willamette Valley have led to strong demand for this vintage of Oregon’s best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With near-perfect scores and a stylistic refinement to the wines which makes them very appealing now, but incredibly promising for the future, we can only hope that upcoming releases remain available at this reasonable price tag. The wine will be arriving on our next shipment from the US and so will be available for delivery later in the year.

Tan Fruit Chardonnay Dux Vineyard 2019 (12x75cl)
£960 per case 12 IB

98 Points | Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate
The aromas of the 2019 Chardonnay Dux Vineyard are alluring and savory, with ripe peach layers, beeswax, roasted almonds and pastry. The palate has a singular satiny texture and impressive concentration, enlivened by tangy acidity and streaks of graphite and finishing with tremendous length and energy. Wow!”
