Due to a number of challenging growing seasons, the global supply of Burgundy remains very scarce, particularly white Burgundy. Even though supplies have largely dried up, we still have a limited amount of Domaine Marc Morey Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes 2017 available to purchase.

As noted by the Wine Advocate, Domaine Marc Morey has been “quietly going about producing some of Chassagne’s finest whites” for the last hundred years. Upon his return from fighting in WW1, Fernand Morey founded the estate in 1919. Marc Morey took over in 1944 following his father’s death, with the holdings growing over subsequent generations. Today the estate is run by Marc’s granddaughter, Sabine Mollard, who has promoted the virtues of lutte raisonée, or sustainable viticulture, in all of her vineyards, ensuring the best grapes reach her wines with minimal intervention, using natural or organic treatments only when absolutely necessary.

“Sabine Mollard is one of the unsung heroes in Chassagne-Montrachet… extremely consistent in recent years and a bit of a “hidden secret” – so just keep it between us.” Neal Martin – Vinous

Les Chenevottes 1er Cru benefits from gravelly soil that offers good drainage. The ground is rich in limestone, which gives flinty minerality to the wines. With a slight angle towards the south-east and plenty of sun, the grapes of Les Chenevottes have plenty of time to ripen over the growing season, while cooler nights in this area help with the retention of acidity.

The 2017 Les Chenevottes has some excellent tasting notes to accompany it with James Suckling describing it as, “mouthwatering and intense”, Decanter’s Tim Aitken stating “scented and appealing…not short of presence” and William Keely of the Wine Advocate noting that the 2017 is “incipiently textural, fine-boned and lively, with impressive tension and definition”.

Les Chenevottes 2017 is a delightful Chassagne that will not disappoint and we are now the last merchant in Europe with these cases on offer. They are in-stock and ready for immediate delivery.

Domaine Marc Morey Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes 2017
£280 IB (6x75cl)

93 Points | Decanter, Tim Aitken
Located in what Sabine Mollard calls ‘the valley of death’, this premier cru was wiped out by frost in 2016 but is back with some aplomb in 2017. Yields were comparatively high – as they often are after a gelée noire – but this is not short of presence or intensity. Scented and appealing, it has subtle wood spices and a core of pear and citrus fruit. (Drink between 2020-2024)

92 Points |James Suckling
Quite complex with grapefruit and a lemon-pith edge. Fine acidity runs linear and fresh on the palate. Mouthwatering and intense. Drink or hold.

91 Points | Wine Advocate, William Keeley
The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes is showing very well, delivering an attractive bouquet of citrus blossom, orange oil, Anjou pear and fresh pastry. Medium to full-bodied, it’s incipiently textural, fine-boned and lively, with impressive tension and definition for this climat.
