Established in 1967 by Dr Tom Cullity, Vasse Felix is Margaret River’s founding wine estate and is considered a true pioneer of the region. Cullity searched obsessively for the perfect plot of land, taking guidance from the research of Professor Harold Olmo (1955) and Dr. John Gladstones (1965) who highlighted the Margaret River cape for its climatic similarities to Bordeaux. He eventually settled on a small piece of land, now the Vasse Felix Home Vineyard, by the Wilyabrup Brook, planting 8 hectares of vines, now the oldest vines in Margaret River.

Today, this certified fully organic estate is owned and managed by Paul Holmes à Court, the second generation of his family to run Vasse Felix. Virginia Willcock has been the winemaker since 2006, during which time she has garnered considerable accolades including; New World Winery of The Year, Wine Enthusiast; Top 100 International Winery, Wine & Spirits USA; Wine, Winery & Winemaker of Year, West Aust. Good Wine Guide; and Australian Winemaker of The Year, Gourmet Traveller WINE.

Made from the estate’s most unique small vineyard sections, the Heytesbury Chardonnay is Vasse Felix’s flagship white, and we are delighted to offer the outstanding 2020 bottling for you today.

Awarding the highest ever score for a Heytesbury Chardonnay, The Wine Advocate’s Erin Larkin is a big fan, and describes the 2020 as “Brilliant, as usual”. Her delight may well be down to the 2020 growing season, which was noted by the estate as being a warm one. Larkin points out, “the increased phenolic texture of the warmer years suits the funky, complex and textural style of the wine and delivers a distinctly balanced drinking experience early on in its life”.

This 2020 iteration also achieved an “excellent” in the renowned Langtons Classification of Australian wines.

This is a wine that can be enjoyed young and fresh, or will happily cellar for the next decade for those who prefer a more complex, aged Chardonnay.

At just £234 per case 6 IB, these wines offer excellent value for money, and with only a limited number of cases landing later this year, make sure to order now to avoid disappointment.

Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2020
£234 per case 6 IB

97 Points | Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate
This is a brilliant wine that I “tend” to prefer in warmer vintages. The increased phenolic texture of the warmer years suits the funky, complex and textural style of the wine and delivers a distinctly balanced drinking experience early on in its life. So, to the 2020 Heytesbury Chardonnay: there are notes of fresh curry leaf, preserved lemon, wild beach air, white shiso, enoki, Granny Smith apples, grilled peach and pink grapefruit. In the mouth, the wine shows polish and poise amid the tannic framework, and the juicy acidity that pulses in the background imbues the wine with life and beat. Brilliant, as usual.
