In 2013 The Wine Advocate’s Robert Parker described Morlet as “one of the up-and-coming superstar producers in Northern California”, and today you can certainly say they have arrived, becoming one of the very few estates anywhere in the world to have achieved perfect 100-point scores for four wines from different grape varieties.
This success can be attributed to founder Luc Morlet. Formerly the winemaker at Peter Michael (where he remains a consultant), Luc decided to go it alone in the mid-2000s and for the better part of two decades has been crafting bottles that perfectly straddle the Old World and New World. Aside from a seemingly golden winemaking touch, another key to success for Morlet has been his access to some truly elite vineyards across northern California.
“Luc Morlet is not only a fabulous winemaking talent, he knows how to bring the French savoir-faire of complexity, elegance and precision to the ripe, concentrated, intense fruit of California.” – Robert Parker
The wines of Morlet are rarely seen outside of the US with tiny production volumes that sell out on release to their oversubscribed mailing list and restaurant customers. However, today we are happy to be able to offer Morlet Family Vineyards La Proportion Doree 2019.
Inspired by the very best producers of Bordeaux Pessac-Leognan, this unique cuvee was handcrafted using classical techniques. An example of both art and nature, it is named after the principle of the Golden Ratio or “La Proportion Doree”.
Scoring a fantastic 99 points from Jeb Dunnuck, he describes this wine as, “just about pure perfection… no one does Bordeaux Blanc in California better”. Robert Parker has previously likened La Proportion Doree to one of the Bordelaise greats, saying it “reminds me of a California version of the limited production Château Haut-Brion Blanc” yet La Proportion Doree is available for a fraction of the price.
These are available to buy in cases of 6 or as single bottles. Order now for delivery in early 2023 as Parker confirms, “the wines from this small boutique winery are not to be missed”.

A blend of 69% Semillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc, and 1% Muscadelle, the just about pure perfection 2019 La Proportion Doree reveals a vivid gold hue as well as a kaleidoscopic array of crushed citrus, honeyed lime, white flowers, green almonds, and crushed stone-like minerality. Beautifully complex, seamless, full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, it has an incredible texture, bright acidity, and a brilliant finish. Hats off to winemaker Luc Morlet – no one does Bordeaux Blanc in California better.
97-99 Lisa Perotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate
Luc Morlet has 100 Muscadelle vines, planted in 1953, which he co-ferments with the Sauvignon Blanc to produce this stunning wine. This is all barrel fermented with native yeast. This barrel sample of 2019 La Proportion Doree is composed of 69% Semillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc and 1% Muscadelle. It prances out of the glass with gregarious scents of white peaches, pear tart and preserved lemons plus nuances of lime leaves, crushed rocks and honeycomb. The medium to full-bodied palate is tightly wound at this nascent stage, revealing layers of stone fruit and citrusy flavors with mineral accents and a long, savory finish. 780 cases are due to be made.
